Tales From Heaven And Hell

At the center of the board, Joan of Arc kneels in full armor, her banner and cross beside her, surrounded by roaring golden and orange flames. She does not scream or struggle. She sits with her hands clasped, head bowed, calm and unbroken even as the fire rises around her.

All around the chessboard stand pale, ghostly figures - silent witnesses, the souls of those who watched, those who betrayed her, those who would remember her - forming a perfect ring around the tragedy. Behind them, a swirling galaxy stretches into the void, and the spires of Rouen Cathedral rise dark and distant on the horizon.
