Dead Ringer [Mireille]

Shortly after the death of Cassia Lutharyn, two Class VI students of the Academy of Charon sneak into the mortuary intending only to see their friend one last time. Unfortunately, Oliver Ormont is a prideful alchemist, and Morgana Mortemer is a necromancer with a vision, and neither is particularly good at backing down from an argument.

What begins as a disagreement over whether death can truly be reversed soon becomes an increasingly disastrous attempt to prove the other wrong. Cassia's body is stolen by the two, reanimated, subjected to forbidden transmutation, and eventually lost beyond a mysterious mirror belonging to Headmistress Eris Veydrassan, leaving Oliver and Morgana injured, exhausted, and with only hours remaining before a funeral that is now conspicuously missing its corpse.

With confession no longer seeming like a survivable option, the pair enlist a deeply unwilling Lydie L'éclair in one final scheme to construct a perfect imitation of Cassia using her cosmetic magic and return it before anyone notices. A dead ringer.

Theme: Comedy and the consequences of using great power for all the wrong reasons by messing with forces of nature they were never meant to meddle with.
