When the Magic Breaks

Billy Kaplan thought leaving Agatha behind would be the hardest thing he'd ever have to do.

He was wrong.

Now that he's on his own, Billy is struggling to understand the magic inside him. His powers have always been connected to his emotions, and lately, his emotions have been impossible to control.

Fear makes the magic flicker.

Anger makes it surge.

And grief makes Billy wonder what might happen if he completely loses control.

Then Tommy goes missing.

Billy searches everywhere he can think of, refusing to believe that his brother is simply gone. But as the days pass without a single sign of Tommy, fear begins turning into desperation.

Until Billy receives a piece of information that changes everything.

But he may also be in terrible danger.

Billy's fear finally becomes too much.

His magic explodes.

But instead of destroying the world around him, something far stranger happens.

Reality bends.

People begin seeing memories that don't belong to them. Objects Billy has never seen before suddenly appear around him. Places seem to overlap. For a few terrifying moments, Billy can't tell what is real and what isn't.

Then he hears a voice.

A voice he hasn't heard since he was a child.

A man's voice.

His father's voice.

And Billy realizes something that should be impossible.

His father is alive.

But if Billy wants to find him, he'll have to learn exactly what his magic is capable of before it breaks reality completely.
