"I want to protect my family, like our father did. He was a brave man who fought for his country. I want to be like that, I just don't know how."
April Leeves is a young timid teen who looked up to her father. An honorable man who did everything to protect those he held dear, even if it meant giving up his own life to see that it's done. That's the kind of man April was proud to call her father. One day as she was working on homework in her room, men in military uniform came to her home. She knew what this meant, there would be no other reason for them to be here. Her father was gone.
Crushed by this lost, April wants to do all she can to protect her mother, sister and brother, but how? While sitting on the roof of her home, thinking of her father, she makes a promise in his honor. That she will do all she can, even though she had no idea how she would do it. Out of nowhere, a green falling star came shooting down from the sky straight at April. Before it seemed like it was going to hit her, the "star" suddenly stopped. That's when April realized, it wasn't a star at all, but a strange ring. As it floated in front of her a voice suddenly came from it.
"April Leeves of Earth, you have been chosen."
