In a kingdom divided by social status, King Nightmare and King Dream, two powerful kings and lifelong friends, secretly visit a village to experience the lives of their people. There, they unexpectedly meet two commoners, Cross and Killer, after an awkward encounter in the marketplace.
At first, their meetings are filled with nervousness, misunderstandings, and embarrassing moments.
However, as the weeks pass, the four gradually become comfortable with one another. Nightmare grows especially close to Cross, while Dream develops a playful and affectionate relationship with Killer. What begins as friendship slowly turns into love.
For a while, the four believe they can ignore the difference between kings and commoners. But their happiness is threatened when the royal council discovers their relationships. The kings are forced to choose between their crowns and the people they love.
Unable to abandon their kingdoms and the people who depend on them, Nightmare and Dream make the painful decision to let Cross and Killer go. The two commoners leave the kingdom, leaving the kings behind with everything they once believed they wanted.
Years later, Nightmare and Dream become respected rulers, but they never forget their first loves. Every year, when the Moonlight Festival returns, they remember Cross and Killer and wonder what their lives might have been like if they had never been separated.
They met as strangers, became friends, fell in love, and lost each other because of the crowns they were born to wear.
