For years, the forest outside Green Hills has been home to a mysterious creature no one has never been able to find.

Until Team Sonic discovers him.

Shadow the Hedgehog is a frightened young teenager who has spent his entire life surviving alone. Abandoned in the forest as a baby after years of experimentation at a G.U.N. facility, he knows nothing about family, friendship, or a world outside of the wilderness.

And most importantly, he doesn't trust humans.

When Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles bring Shadow to the attention of their adoptive parents, Tom and Maddie Wachowski, they quickly realize that this isn't a dangerous animal that needs to be captured.

He's a scared kid who has never had anyone.

Tom and Maddie want to give Shadow something he's never known before: a family.

But earning the trust of a traumatized, feral teenager won't be easy.

Shadow doesn't understand why they're being kind to him. He doesn't understand why Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles want him as a brother. And he certainly doesn't understand why Tom and Maddie want him to become their son.

As the Wachowskis slowly open their home-and their hearts-to him, Shadow must only have that not every person is going to hurt him.

But learning how to belong isn't easy when you've spent your whole life believing you only have yourself to rely on.

He was abandoned in the shadows.

Now, somebody is finally willing to bring him home.
