Defending Vivian Voss

I've always hated vampires.

Not because I was raised to, but because I learned exactly what they were capable of when my sister Hannah and her husband were found murdered in their Seattle home, drained of blood. The law called it a tragedy and quickly moved on.

I never did.

Their five-year-old son, Oliver, was left behind, and moving back to Seattle meant abandoning the successful legal career I had built in New York. But when the choice was my career or Oli, I chose him.

Now I'm waitressing just to keep us afloat, and the court has made one thing painfully clear: if I can't prove I can provide for him, I could lose him too.

Then comes an offer I can't afford to refuse.

One case.

One million dollars.

My client?

Vivian Voss.

Billionaire hotel queen. Cold, secretive, impossible to read.

And a vampire.

Vivian has been accused of murdering one of her employees on Voss property, and I'm convinced she's hiding something. I should hate everything about her.

Instead, I notice the way she watches me. The way her voice softens when she says my name. The way she somehow knows when I haven't eaten or when I'm pushing myself too far.

Falling for a vampire was never part of the case.

Falling for Vivian was never supposed to happen at all.

I still don't like vampires.

But her?

She's my vampire.

And somewhere along the way, Vivian Voss became more than the woman I was hired to defend.

She became our protector.

My safe place.

And the vampire I fell in love with.
