Felix remembers all about his father. It was his father's admission to the army that flung him into the chaos of the war again. After finding harbor at Ben's farm, and a few misunderstandings, Felix and Ben have grown closer.
They need to really, given all that has happened.
Now, the two and the group of people in the caravan with them are on the run from the Union. Like many, they have no desire to take part in the war.
Felix, Ben and the group have to battle significant obstacles...sickness, Confederates, and for Felix and Ben, the stakes are even higher.
Ben still needs time to work through the complications of his trauma after hearing the gunshots, and for Felix, to understand his developing feelings for Ben.
Growing closer than ever, the group has no choice but to look death straight in the eye and keep going. After all...isn't that what war does to you?
