My black oxford pumps were soaked from accidentally stepping on a puddle, and the tiny yellow umbrella I held up barely saved me from the chilly rain. The rain slid down her arms making sure to touch every dip and curve. It licked her busted lip and bruised skin. Her lips were turned up, smiling evilly, as her fist made impact after impact with the man that ignited all her pain. I couldn't do anything but stand there as the rain drenched my body, hearing her scream at him as her fist flew into his face over and over. And in the moment I could feel everything she felt. I could look at her one good time and realize why she does the way she does. She claimed to be a monster by her own doing but failed to mention the world had made her that way. 'Monster(noun): an imaginary creature that is typically large, ugly, and frightening' Rosemary was always warned to stay away from monsters. She never listened because if she did she wouldn't be watching one sleep so peacefully in her bed like this.

Their bodies speak in ways words never could, lost in the warmth of each other. But when the rain stops, so does the illusion. The moment shatters when one pulls away, apologizing-revealing that, despite everything they shared, they don't see the protagonist that way. Left alone, heartbroken, the protagonist is left to wrestle with the contradiction of feeling everything just moments before, only to lose it all in the silence that follows.
