The cocoa girl

> Nigeria, 1955.

Adaeze Okafor has never wanted much from life. A little freedom. A chance to see beyond her father's cocoa farm. Perhaps, if she is lucky, a love that belongs entirely to her.

Then Thomas Whitmore arrives.

He is English. She is Nigerian. He is the son of a man who profits from the very cocoa her family struggles to grow. Loving him should be impossible, and yet somehow, in stolen conversations and quiet moments neither of them is supposed to have, Adaeze begins to believe that perhaps love can exist outside the rules of their world.

But the world has rules of its own.

When their relationship threatens to become more than either of them can hide, Adaeze is forced to leave everything she knows behind and cross an ocean into a country where she has no family, no certainty, and no idea whether the man she loves will ever come back for her.

Years later, they will meet again.

He will have a life she knows nothing about.

She will have a secret he never knew existed.

And Adaeze will finally have to decide whether the love that once saved her is the same love that could destroy her.

Some love stories end with a wedding.
Hers begins with a goodbye.
