All the Things We Were

Mystic Falls has always been a town built on secrets.
Adeline Elora Whitethorne has spent seventeen years knowing there is something unusual about her family, even if she has never quite understood what it is. She is impossibly intelligent, effortlessly talented, and blessed-or cursed-with a memory that refuses to forget. On the soccer field, she is nearly impossible to beat. On the track, she runs until the noise in her head finally quiets. At school, there isn't much she doesn't know, and there isn't much she can't learn.
But Adeline has always been human.
Or at least, that's what she's been told.
Then Stefan Salvatore comes back to Mystic Falls, and strange things begin happening around town. People start disappearing. Old stories begin resurfacing. And a second Salvatore brother arrives with a smile that hides far more than it reveals.
Damon Salvatore is arrogant, reckless, infuriating-and far too much like Adeline for either of them to be comfortable with.
She's clever enough to see through his lies, stubborn enough to challenge him, and reckless enough to meet him blow for blow. He thinks she's just another human who doesn't understand what she's gotten herself into.
He's wrong.
As autumn settles over Mystic Falls and the line between the ordinary and the supernatural begins to disappear, Adeline finds herself pulled deeper into a world her family has spent generations trying to keep hidden.
Some secrets are better left buried.
And some people are impossible to forget.
