Boys are often taught how to perform manhood before they are given permission to experience boyhood.
Päverdē learned survival before he learned how to play.
Raised inside poverty, generational trauma, complicated love, faith, and the expectations placed on boys who are asked to become men too soon, Päverdē carries memories that never quite learned how to stay in the past.
Through childhood games like Red Rover, Freeze Tag, Mother May I, and Red Light, Green Light, he revisits the moments that shaped his understanding of masculinity, family, vulnerability, love, and God.
Because sometimes the games children play are the only places they are allowed to be children.
This is a limited preview of A Child Named Päverdē.
Come meet the boy behind the name.
