The Calling of The Ocean

In the realms of Zestousia, mermaids have come out from hiding, but now are being seen and treated as fish, with shops in dark quiet alleyways selling mermaid meat and real mermaid tails, along with jewellery from scales of mermaids. More inhumane people even sell mermaids as a companion, almost an equivalent to a giant goldfish pet. Some mermaids are even being chained to giant tanks and aquariums to perform for people, and to be showcased like an animal in the zoo or the circus.

I am Maya, one of the rare mermaids who still live free in ocean. I've heard from my parents about tales of the cruel things mermaids are being forced to do when captured for the humans, though I've never left the comforts and safety of my home under the sea. But all that is going to change in one moon.
