The First Mage

Before she was remembered as the First Mage, she was Evelyn-thirteen years old, heir to the throne of Dragonnaw, and the only child in a powerful magical bloodline who had never awakened.

Her parents wield mana with ease. Warlocks train in the courtyards beneath her windows. Children younger than her have already felt that first spark of magic bloom beneath their skin. Evelyn, meanwhile, has studied every technique, memorized every theory, and pressed her hand against the same silent mana stone more times than she can count.

Nothing ever answers.

But Evelyn has never been particularly good at accepting an answer simply because everyone else believes it.

When she begins questioning what an awakening actually is, her failure slowly transforms into something far more dangerous: curiosity. What begins with ancient books, stubborn experiments, and a wooden feather becomes a discovery that threatens everything Dragonnaw understands about magic.

Mana does not belong only to the awakened.

It does not belong to anyone.

It flows through everything.

And if magic can be understood instead of inherited, then perhaps it can be learned.

As Evelyn begins mapping the invisible patterns beneath the world, she unknowingly lays the foundations for Magecraft, magical notation, linking, and the ancient art that will one day become known as Naming Magic.

History will remember her as the First Mage.

But first, she has to become the girl brave enough to ask why the rules exist at all.
