"I need you to promise me something, too," Ladybug said, her voice barely audible.

"Anything," Chat Noir replied instantly.

She sniffled, her tears now flowing freely down her cheeks. "Promise me you'll wait for me."

Without hesitation, Chat Noir reached up, his gloved hand gently cupping her tear-streaked face, his claws barely grazing her skin. "I'll always wait for you, m'lady."

"Where are you going?" she asked, the panic creeping into her voice for the first time.

"Out," he replied curtly, not even turning around. "I need some air."

"Don't walk away, Adrien!" she shouted, her voice filled with desperation. "If you do, there's no coming back from this!"

He paused, his hand hovering over the front door handle. For a brief moment, she thought he might turn around, that he might take it all back. But when he glanced over his shoulder, the anger and hurt evident in his eyes, Marinette knew he wouldn't. And then, without another word, he yanked open the door and disappeared into the night, slamming it behind him.
