"People change" he said, forcing his face to stay completely blank, as if everything he was doing right now actually made sense.

"People don't change in a day!" her voice broke, teary and desperate as she held in to his shirt. "And you? You'd never change. Not like this! I know you- you would never let him take me"

"Well then, you were wrong about me" he lied, chest burning as he forced himself to pull her shaky hands off his coat.
"I'm done. We're over"

1 year later:

"Sir?"
His driver's voice broke the silence from the front seat. "The security detail is clearing the street. Do you want me to pull away?"

He didn't take his eyes off the grand entrance of the hotel. Camera flashes lit up, crowd started cheering. Devraj stepped out first, waving to the press with a triumphant smile. Right behind him, was HER.

He had let her walk into the fire so he wouldn't have to burn. The guilt was eating him alive. He pulled his gaze away, throat burning as he stared ahead in to the dark.

"Drive."
