COMMUNISM IN POLAND

This Is How It Was. This Is How We Lived.

What was Poland like under communist rule? How did ordinary people live, what did they fear most, and how did they cope with censorship, propaganda, shortages in the shops, and the constant control of the state?

This book tells the story of communism in Poland - from the seizure of power after the Second World War, through Stalinism, the events of 1956, 1968, and 1970, the birth of Solidarity, martial law, and finally the transformations of 1989.

It is not only a story of politics and the most important leaders. It is also the story of everyday life in Poland: queues, food ration cards, empty shelves, propaganda, censorship, work, school, and family life.

Discover the most important events, figures, and mechanisms of a system that shaped the lives of an entire society for more than four decades.

The history of the Polish People's Republic is not simply a thing of the past. It is a part of Poland's history whose consequences and memories are still present today.
