Thandeka is deeply in love with Mthunzi, a wealthy and well-known businessman who has finally asked her to marry him. To Thandeka, it feels like a dream come true. She believes she is finally going to marry the man she loves and begin the life they have always imagined.

But in a traditional Zulu family, love does not always come before culture.
When Mthunzi's family arrives to complete the lobola negotiations, Thandeka's father, Mbatha, reveals a shocking truth.

The lobola is not for Thandeka.

It is for her older sister, Buhlebemvelo.

According to their father's traditions, the younger daughter cannot marry before her older sister. And if Mthunzi truly wants Thandeka, there is only one way forward-he must first marry Buhlebemvelo, making her his first wife, before he can take Thandeka as his second.

Overnight, Buhlebemvelo becomes the wife of a man who was in love with her younger sister, while Thandeka watches the man she loves marry the very sister who was supposed to stand beside her on her wedding day. Buhlebemvelo never asked to become the wife of a man whose heart belonged to someone else. Thandeka never imagined that loving Mthunzi would mean sharing him with her own sister. And Mthunzi is forced to choose between the woman his heart desires and the tradition that demands another woman become his wife first.
As the three of them enter a marriage bound by tradition, love, jealousy, resentment, and unexpected emotions begin to threaten the bond between two sisters.
