The Next Customer Was Only 3 Kilometers Away

Ravi is a skilled electrician, but finding customers is harder than fixing electrical problems.

Some days he has three jobs. Other days, his phone stays silent.

He has tried visiting cards, referrals, WhatsApp groups and even paid advertising. But many enquiries never become real jobs.

Then Ravi discovers a different way to find local customers.

Instead of waiting for someone to call, he starts receiving local service enquiries through WhatsApp. When a nearby customer needs an electrician, Ravi can respond quickly, complete the job and get paid directly.

His experience teaches him an important lesson:

Being good at your work is only half of running a local service business. The other half is getting discovered by people who actually need your service.

This is a story about electricians, plumbers, technicians, caregivers and other local professionals trying to build better livelihoods in a changing digital economy.

It is also the story of how technology can connect local customer demand with the professionals who can solve the problem.

Sometimes, the next customer isn't far away.

Sometimes, they're only three kilometers away.

You just need a better way to find them.
