It's October 1981.

Almost a year away from releasing his most soul-poured project yet, and having just released a successful album years prior, the 23-year-old was in his most ambitious form he could muster.

Michael Jackson had it all. or so everyone thought. Despite his star-studded childhood, multiple plaques, piling awards, songs hogging the top spots in charts, vast cultural influence in America, and broad access to a luxorious life, it seemed as if he had the world in his hands.

However, he was lacking the very thing he held dear the most.

Companionship.

Maybe in the form of a lover whose arms you can run into after a long, grueling day. Or in the form of a friend who you can call upon the receiving of exciting news. Or maybe a shoulder to cry on. Somebody to hold. Somebody to exist in comfortable silence with.

Maybe someone who he can trust with his highest intuition to be his friend without eventually turning their back, and making the whole relationship feels transactional. Like the rest of his friendships did.

But as he wonders his Encino neighborhood yearning for that companionship, he stumbles upon the front door of the light blue charming house with the singular beat up Volkswagen Rabbit in the front.
