They called it research. We called it Wednesday.

Salvador, 1992. Once a week, a bus collected a handful of children and drove them to a place where the adults never raised their voices and every answer was written down. The exercises were strange, playful, occasionally impossible: build something that can survive, tell us what the animal is thinking, name the shape behind the paper without calculating. And always, at the end of the month, the same question. Have you been dreaming?

Nobody asked who was paying for the bus. The children were eight. They felt chosen.

Twenty years later, a leak put the Program's name in the news, along with a version of what it had done to the kids inside it. Most of them had spent their lives trying not to think about it. One of them had never stopped.

Now he is going back: to the classified files, to the other subjects, to the blonde woman with the southern accent who once told him, smiling, that the adults did not know what he was going to say.

He is starting to believe she was lying.
