Amelia Fairchild is in way over her head.

Thankfully, her new botanical research position at the Orleans Center for Forensic Science and Anthropological Research is a step in the right direction toward success. Well... sort of.

She's eight hundred miles from home, her apartment is... well, her apartment, and life keeps throwing disasters her way. After Amelia discovers human remains during routine field research, she's forced to work with Vincent Moreau, God's most arrogant pathologist and a spectacularly painful thorn in her side. He's rude, inconsiderate, and refuses to do anything her way.

He's also grieving.

Vincent's family seems like a perfectly respectable old-money Creole dynasty, but Amelia has learned that respectable families can hide very ugly things.

Hiding behind anger and sarcasm has become second nature since his untimely dismissal from the coroner's office several years ago.
