After abandoning me when I was about four years old, my mother was absent from my life for nearly nineteen years. I grew up without knowing her, wondering who she was and what it would be like to finally have a mother-daughter relationship with her. When I finally met her again as an adult, I believed I was getting the chance to build the relationship I had always wanted. Instead, the years that followed would bring hope, heartbreak, betrayal, and experiences that changed me forever.
