Although Dan doesn't look the part, with his pastel sweaters and flower crowns, he's one of the most depressed people out there. All because of three things: he's gay, his dad abuses him because of it, and his best friend, Phil, decided to leave when Dan needed him most.
Phil is a ray of sunshine, but he doesn't exactly understand why Dan is so depressed. It's just a phase right? The cutting, not eating, being "depressed," all a phase. Besides, what cute, pastel-wearing, boy is depressed?
