Why does this always happen to me?

Sometimes the hardest part of surviving something isn't what happened.

It's waking up the next day and realizing your body remembers a fear you thought you had already healed from.

"why does this always happen to me?" is a poem about the silence that comes after trauma-the guilt, the unanswered questions, the instinct to blame yourself, and the terrifying feeling of meeting a version of yourself you thought you left behind.

It's about realizing that healing doesn't mean nothing will ever hurt you again.

Sometimes healing is simply choosing not to abandon yourself when it does.
