The day you found me

The first lie I told about this book was that it was fiction.

I told the press it was just a story, my publisher that the characters were invented, and my readers that any resemblance to reality was purely coincidental. I sold thousands of copies in a foreign country, hid behind a pseudonym, and convinced myself that an ocean's distance was enough to bury my past.

It took me ten years to build a perfect life in Madrid. I had the success I'd always dreamed of and my best friend coordinating packed book signings.

Everything was under control.

Until, in the middle of a crowd, a worn-out copy dropped onto my table and I heard the one voice my memory had never managed to erase.

"Who should I make it out to?" I asked without looking up.
"I think... you already know my name."
