In turbulent mid-19th century Argentina, Renata has started on her quest to obtain her long-awaited freedom. But as she tumbles into Buenos Aires in the midst of an overbearing dictatorship, she discovers it would take more than guts to succeed.
Renata encounters two opportunities - employment in one of the most prominent Irish-Argentine noble families and membership in the Brotherhood - each one challenging her perspectives of love, loss, and her personal definition of what it means to be truly free.
