"The crowd cheered... The avian lunged hard. The man smoothly flipped his grip, blade facing him and slid the opening up the pike. He twisted. He caught the pike and yanked down hard. Down came the pike, avian attached. As the pike came out of his hands, the man slid the guard up and jabbed the avian in the face as he came down. He was out cold."

The Last Knights of Cambria Book 1: Echoes of Gideon by kullman
16 parts Complete
Gideon Saint is dying for something exciting to happen in his life. With his love of history, he figures an internship at the museum has to be a good start, right? Anything is better than listening to his parents argue or sitting alone in his room doing research no one but him seems to care about. A chance encounter with a magical ring leaves him transported to an alternate version of ancient Wales, or as it was sometimes called, Cambria. 1432 Wales, to be exact. Here magic is the most powerful weapon of all as kings vie for power. Good thing Gideon's teleportation from the present has also left him with the ability to use magic, and he's quickly regarded as a powerful wizard. In this timeline, Wales maintained it's independence, but that's about to change. Henry V is on the throne of the England, and the greatest warrior king England has ever had has set his sights on Wales. Can Gideon help save his newfound friends and master his new powers, while living a double life in the 21st century? Ahem, living people die, dying people live, Henry V is here and he's awesome despite being the main antagonist, everybody is vaguely gay, swords are described in loving detail, people are not, lovely platonic friendships, did we mention swords? Yes, you may learn something about history, but that's a risk you'll have to take. Basically, think of this as a Percy Jackson type of adventure, but it's historical fiction instead of Greek gods. The narrator is 15 and the major supporting characters are 14, 17, and 19. That said, there's nothing in the way of content that's inappropriate for a younger reader. As always if you're not here to go on a fun little adventure find a different story. Trigger/Content: very mild language, some magic violence, fantasy violence. Self-harm is briefly discussed. Adoption issues are discussed as well as brief scenes of a abusive family. Characters briefly mention crushes and or dating, no real innuendos.

Winter Ball: The Northern Academy

15 parts Ongoing

When I enrolled at the Northern Academy of Magic, I never thought my first year would turn into a nightmare. A black dragon broke my heart, trampling my pride and humiliating me publicly. Years later, our paths crossed again. The arrogant inquisitor, sent by the Emperor's Council, has returned to destroy my world, shake the ground beneath my feet, and take away everything dear to me. But not this time, Mr. Inquisitor. I will fight for my life, and no dragon will stop me. *** "Move over, ice princess," a quiet voice whispered in my ear, and my bed creaked under his weight. Maximilian threw two more of Kami's blankets over me and unceremoniously pulled me into his arms, settling next to me. "What do you think you're doing, you brazen dragon?" I scolded the uninvited guest, not bothering to mince my words. Read here or on RoyalRoad.com
