When 12 year old Della from the South of France gets a phone call from her father to come and visit him in San Fransisco her entire family including her mother, oldest sister Fern, younger twin sisters Kira and Kara, and baby brother Max they are all uneasy about it, but finally decide to let Della go for a year and that means she has to transfer into eighth grade there. On her ways she sadly discovers the reason her father wants her there and finds someone along the way...
