You don't know them at all if that's what you think. District Two's careers for the 74th Hunger Games may present themselves to be just that, but they aren't. Deep inside Cato and Clove are scared of coming to a dead end. They wanted to grow old with each other. The chance was taken away when Clove got reaped and Cato volunteered.

Clove never knew her parents. All she knows is her trainer Favian who sometimes doubles as her dad, and sometimes falls far short of looking out for her. In district 2 they train you not to be heartless, but to ignore your heart. After years of solitude with Favian her only family Clove has mastered this skill almost as well as she's mastered knife throwing.
