"In Saskatchewan, when I couldn't fall asleep, I'd watch the moon and think about how across the country and over the border, you were probably out on a rooftop beneath the same moon. You were the first person I enjoyed the moon with. Every other time, I was alone."
The Kraang's plot to take over New York has succeeded. The turtles, Destiny, April, Casey, and Diaval have managed to escape to the outskirts of the city, but not without loss. With Leonardo gravely injured and their Sensei gone, the moods of the group are pessimistic at best. Their minds are stuck on the city they left behind, but they know that they can't go back. Not yet.
Now, they have to get used to living in April's family farmhouse; cleaning, training, and cooking for themselves. Of course, the lives of the turtles and those near to them are never normal. There are plenty of new mutants, both friend and enemy, lurking in the moonlit shadows of the forest around them, making their lives all the more interesting.
All the while, they're healing from physical and mental wounds, helping each other grow stronger, and learning more and more about the past, present, and even the future.

"Try not to be stupid next time, okay?"
When he's told shortly after graduation that he didn't actually pass and, in order to truly earn his diploma, he must redo his senior year math credit, Casey Jones isn't sure how things could get worse. He knows school isn't his strong suit, but faced with yet another failure, he wonders if it would be better to just give up.
Then, things do get worse, and he loses his dad in a car accident that he blames himself for.
Spiralling into depression, Casey faces a future that he can't picture. Everyone is moving on with their lives, moving on to bigger and better things, and he's stuck in the same place he's been for years. His dad is dead, his sister moves out, and he knows it will only be a matter of time before the friends he has left leave him behind.
No one feels the way he does, and he's sure that that's the truth until he meets her.
She has secrets that she won't share and a past that she keeps hidden. They share the darkness and yet, together, they start to see things in a new light.
