With the rise of genetic engineering, new pets have come onto the market. Criminals in prisons become the guinea pigs for these new 'splices', resulting in designer, unethical pets known as Splicers.

After Roderich, a lonely and pressured aristocrat's son, pursuades his parents to get him one of these pets, he suddenly discoveres what it's like to have a best friend - but, like in all stories, there's a problem. This 'pet' is just a broken human. It feels pain and has emotions just like him. It doens't like wearing a collar with a rich London street name on it. It doens't like the microchip and the vet's visits.

One day, Roderich goes missing. His blood and a corpse is found in a nearby park, and the splicers are immidately terminated. But what if it wasn't Roderich who was found? What if he and his best friend were somewhere else, responsible for the deaths of thousands of shattered souls.

More importantly, what will ensue when they decide to save the splices?
