Small towns are nothing if not friendly. Friendship, Wisconsin is no different. Around here, everyone wears a smile. And no one ever locks their doors. Until, that is, high school sweetheart Ruth Fried is found murdered. Strung up like a scarecrow in the middle of a cornfield. Unfortunately, Friendship's police are more adept at looking for lost pets than catching killers. So Ruth's best friend, Kippy Bushman, armed with only her Midwestern spirit and Ruth's secret diary, sets out to find the murderer. But in a quiet town like Friendship--where no one is a suspect-- anyone could be the killer. I DO NOT OWN THIS BOOK. All credit goes to Kathleen Hale.

"You can't even say her name out loud. You know what that reminds me of? Freaking Voldemort." Feliciano thinks of what people said after That Night. What they still are saying. He stands. Jamie looks like he wants to take the words back. "Love-" "Don't talk about her like that," he says. "In this house, we will not talk about her like that. It's enough that the rest of the world does." --- When Feliciano is seventeen, his best friend is accused of murder. Before he can wrap his head around it, she leaves town and cuts all ties. He's left heartbroken, with a million questions. The rest of the village is convinced that they stay in touch, that he supports a child killer. The mob isn't interested in whether it's actually true. They just want vengeance. Ten years later, she returns to a cottage in a nearby forest. Feliciano - and the rest of the village - have a lot of feelings about this. Maybe it would be easier to ignore her return, if it wasn't causing him to lose everything he has.
