Our protagonist (call her Oma) traded her life of luxury and stability for one of freedom and unpredictability. Call her a mercenary, salvager, bounty hunter, or pirate, but she has a good record and pretty clean conscience so far.

Petty consumerism brings her to the space station Ischium, intergalactic trading post, but something else will keep her there.
