Malia's a clean slate when she wakes up. No recollection of her past, no memories left to be remembered, only a vague, chilling inkling that her future is going to be anything but simple. (And by some miracle she's acquired a broken ankle, but that's really the least of her problems.)
Of course, all gladers are thrown headfirst into their new existences with nothing but a few letters to form a name. It's standardized greenie protocol. Shoved in a box, made to leave everything behind on unknown land, even the very thing that makes a person who they are. Their identity.
There's just one difference that separates Malia from the other gladers and declares her as something else entirely.
The others wake up in the box.
