Siding with her father, Jee-Young remained with him till her mother came back and took her fathers earnings and fled, leaving them broke. And to make matters worse, her father got worse in health and needed to be maintained in the hospital. While trying to provide for her father, Jee-Young quit from her job. When needed most desperately, she is offered money from a game of Ddakji. She is told that she can earn more from other kid games, and so she decides to earn money this way through Squid Games.
