I looked outside the car window. Around me, the familiar rugged landscape of Pennsylvania came into view as we entered my hometown, and it took nearly everything in me to keep myself from jumping out of the seat. I wanted to cry, scream, do something! Give me one victory. Give me one thing to hold on to.
It was almost surreal. For the first time in a whole year, I’m coming home today.

Her entire life so far had been like one sunny afternoon, passing quickly and soon forgotten along with all the other days that had no stand-out excitement or tragedy.
