Following closely the third season of the series, this story reveals the life of a fifteen year old survivor, Quinn, and her unusually close, but platonic, relationship with Merle Dixon as they survive the apocalypse together.
Having lost her family in the first few weeks of the outbreak, Quinn is no stranger to the horrors this new world brings. The only silver lining was having Merle Dixon find her on the precipice of death and nurse her back to health. Because of that, Quinn has irrevocably bonded with the man on a deep level. Perhaps she is too deeply entwined in his life, too blind to what he has done, and what he is capable of. Perhaps she doesn't know the true Merle Dixon. Nevertheless, she will follow the older man to hell and back, and that truth will be tested in the time to come.
Flashbacks are in italic.
The Walking Dead does not belong to me, and all characters and dialogue belong to them. Chapters follow (for the most part) the plot from the episode, and some dialogue is taken directly from the show. Once again, all credit belongs to AMC's The Walking Dead, all that belongs to me are my original ideas and my character.

Daryl Dixon is completely on his own. After the Saviors burn down Alexandria, he thinks that he is the only survivor. Living without the group that he has come to love, has left him as nothing more than a shell of the man he used to be. One day after a brutal fight, he stumbles upon a run-down shack in the woods. As he lay dying on the dirty floor, his life is saved by a complete stranger. These two loners find that living life together is so much better than doing it alone. I haven't written a story in the first person since Broken. It's not as easy as it sounds, but I enjoyed the challenge. This story has taken me months to write and I finished it just days after the Season 8 midseason finale. Any similarities to that episode are pure coincidence. I wrote the chapter (You'll know which one) months before Season8 even started. For anyone that is newly following me or reading my books, I write differently than most.
