For a few months now, Serenity Calder's been experiencing loss of memory and frequent vivid dreams. She's not depressed or stressed or any other type of emotion that relates to that. She just feels empty, like a big part of her is missing. She used to reach for the stars. But now she's heading straight down the path of oblivion. She neglects her studies and spends countless hours isolated from everyone in her school's library trying to fill this empty feeling by burying herself in different plots of literature. It was a constant cycle; wake up, go to school, go to the library, go home, and then do it all over again. But of course this cycle can only last for so long until something comes along to disturb it. Or in this case, someone. Meet Jake Collier, he's one of WinterWood's best artists and everyone thinks that he will truly get somewhere in his lifetime. Serenity doesn't know what it is but whenever he's around, she doesn't feel so oblivious.

"How can I sleep when the darkness only makes the silence emptier? When the emptiness only reminds me of what I have lost? When the loss I am suffering makes it impossible to breathe?" For Lauren Heartly to survive the crash at all was a miracle on its own. But to still get out of bed every morning after all she had lost... well, that took a rare kind of courage. Lauren falls into a silent ghost of her former self as she is passed from home to home, finally settling with an adoptive family, the Shirelands. Lauren's mind convinces her that she and this new family have never met before, but can she deny how she instantly feels at ease in their company? Though names and faces may have slipped through her memory, Lauren begins to uncover the truth behind her sister's disappearance on the Dark Night. Was the crash really an accident? Can she trust her new family and the boy she can't have?
