Welcome to Mysteltine High

My name is Zoelle Daniels and I am crazy. For four years I have seen things...things that I have been informed are not there. I do not take the medication they gave me, it doesn't help. Which makes me a 'problem patient' (which is a nice way of saying that I flushed my pills down the toilet and bit my doctor). So maybe this new boarding school is for the best, even if it is in Iowa. And maybe the lethal cold will be good for me. And maybe the shadows won't follow me...Or at least the imaginary boy who calls himself my guardian angel.

Zo isn't so fond of the idea of an Iowan boarding school for the gifted. The teachers treat her so delicately and the students are all just...weird in a way that she can't even begin to understand. All she knows for sure is that something is strange here in Iowa, something large and dangerous and out of her control. But now, she's involved in it, all thanks to those words she wished she had never heard, "Good evening Zoelle, welcome to Mysteltine High."
