As a young girl my mother told me the legends of how the “soul marks” began. No one knows for sure, but one thing everyone likes to do is make stories about it. My mother’s version included an angel. In her story the angel who gave an old woman one wish because of a sacrifice she made for the greater good. You would have thought this old woman would ask for peace in her final years, or for her husband, who has long passed, to come back and live out her final days, or for her even to join him. In fact those guesses were all wrong. The old woman’s pride and joy was in the fact that her life was spent with her soulmate. She knew how he had helped her anytime evil tried to sway her to do wrong. So, the old woman wished that there was a way in which every human, good or evil, would find their one true love. The angel did as the woman wished and made it known that the markings that would develop on everyone’s arms would match those of one other human, helping them find their mate.

In this world there are two names on everyone's wrist; the person's enemy and their soulmate. Each person has no distinction between the two of the names, for that is something they must find out for themselves. But once they find their soulmate, the names disappear, so they will no longer have the name of their enemies marked upon them and they can live in eternal happiness. But sometimes, the names can get confused. After all, who says you can't meet your enemy first? [NOTE: We wrote this like two years ago I promise we've improved don't judge] (This was written with @im-gay-so-yay).
