"It's kind of depressing, don't you think?" I say as I sit in the kitchen on the counters, swinging my legs, staring at her. "What's depressing?" She asked almost as if it wasn't a question because she didn't want to know. "Growing up. Now we don't play "House", we live house. Now we don't play "School" we pay off our student loans. Now we don't play "Hide and Seek" we hide from our 'Ex's and our ex-best-friends in the grocery stores." I say suddenly interested in my hands as she stares me down with disbelief and disappointment. "Cut the crap." She turned back to chopping what ever vegetable she was chopping. "Now we don't play tag. You play games with me. You're always it." "Cut the crap." She repeated and stopped chopping but didn't look up at me. "Have you ever wondered what happens to the people who are still "it" from childhood games of it" I whisper loud enough for her to hear me. I gaze upon her angry pose as I sit unfazed and waiting for an answer. "Cut. The. Crap." She looks at me and clenches her fist. "Why can't I ever be it? How-" "CUT THE CRAP" She screamed, banging her fist on the cutting board. "NOW WE DON'T PLAY TAG" "STOP" "NOW YOU JUST CHASE ME" "SHUT UP" She left the room. Leaving me alone, sitting on the cabinets wondering how a simple smile could turn into tears running from my face to my hands.

"But just look at the world around you, Love. There's messes everywhere with unclear answers. Don't give up yet." She told me gently. "I know, but I just wish that this was less confusing." "Well, things are gonna get confusing after a while, but you can't just stop trying. You've got to search harder for the answer; maybe it's somewhere you haven't looked yet. Someday you'll trip over a rock that's harder than this, and bandaids won't just stare you in the face. You won't know what to do. So prepare yourself for that day, baby." "I'm gonna trip over a rock?" I asked, eyes widening with worry. She shook her head, the bubbly symphony of her laughs echoing in the room. "No. I mean you're going to be in trouble one day and you won't know how to get out of it. Like this, but tougher." "You mean I'll have to go through this again? But even harder? Ugh, I won't make it." I sighed heavily. "No. I know you will. It just won't be so black and white. It'll be....in between the two." "So it'll be just grey?" She revealed her big, beautiful smile to me as if I had understood all that is right and wrong in the world. Kissing the top of my head, she whispered, "Exactly." {full synopsis inside} Rankings- #16 in juveniles #94 in newkid #241 in multimedia FULLY EDITED VERSION NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON KINDLE!!
