“Okay, Alice, listen to me carefully,” My mom lectured me, in a patronizing way, for what felt like the millionth time. “I’ll only be ten minutes as I’ve just gotta grab something from the store. Don’t leave the car okay? I’m gonna leave the car unlocked but I don’t wanna come back and you’re not here. I really won’t be long though.”

She stood up from the seat, pushing the car keys into her pocket and leaning her towards the direction of the back seats. “Are you sure you’re going to be okay on your own?”

“Yes mom.” I responded, lifting my head up from being buried in my phone, looking at her.

“You can come with me if you-“ She began before being cut off by my not so discreet eye rolling. “Okay I’m leaving. I won’t be long.” With that, she lifted her head out of the car and pushed the door shut, allowing me to hide behind the tinted windows of the car.

It was at that moment that time suddenly slowed down. I began to scroll mindlessly through my Facebook newsfeed, not entirely paying attention, until my eyes were slowly shutting. The car made a quick click noise and I was now locked in.

“Help me!” A sudden high pitched scream jolted me from the sleep I had nearly surrendered myself to. Another scream sounded, but this time it was far more muffled.

I tilted my head to the direction I thought the source of the scream would be. I was correct, as less than 10 meters from the car a petite woman was being dragged into the bushes. Her mouth was covered by a stranger’s giant hand. My eyes widened as I watched the scene in front of me.

Panic set in as I began to watch her struggling. I started to bang against the windows, screaming out but it was useless. They couldn’t hear me…

Life had taken a turn for the better ever since my troubled brother was incarcerated for life. However, one day, a sense of unease crept over me and my best friend as we noticed a mysterious figure tailing us through the bustling town. "Ally, who's that man?" my best friend inquired, her voice tinged with concern. I scanned the area nervously, my heart pounding. "We should get out of here," I urged, seizing her arm as we hastily made our way through the crowded streets. Abruptly, I awoke from a disquieting nightmare, my screams ricocheting through the silent house. "Mom, there's a man chasing me in my dreams," I gasped out, my hands trembling. She attempted to soothe me, attributing the tumultuous visions to my overactive imagination. On one occasion, I inadvertently overheard my mom and aunt engaged in a hushed conversation, puzzling over what impending revelation they were deliberating. Eventually, I mustered the courage to confront the enigmatic man who had been shadowing me. "Why have you been following me? Who are you?" I demanded, my voice quivering with trepidation. "I am Aleekie Smith," he disclosed, leaving me dumbfounded. "You're the man from my dream," I whispered, the pieces falling into place. The drama unfolded further as I crossed paths with a former boyfriend adamant on asserting control, his aggression escalating to a perilous climax when he brandished a firearm. Feeling ensnared, I made a pivotal decision to extricate myself from the tumult, severing ties with everyone in a dramatic departure. Amidst escalating tension and conflict, an unexpected source of solace materialized in the form of my father, ushering the narrative into an unforeseen trajectory. However, I was a kid when I wrote this so take it with a grain of salt. *** Like a deer in head lights, I freeze and watch as the car comes towards me expecting to get hit. But to my surprise, the car swerves to the side slightly next to me and comes to a stop. I take a deep breath I didn't know I was holding at the driver's side door swings open and a very pissed off Axel steps out. "Thank god," I mumble and place my hands on my knees to catch my breath. "Blaze?" He says and I hate it. I hate how he says my name as if it's his. Like he knows it's the only thing I want to hear, him calling out to me, looking at me, focused to me. It's the first time in my life I wanted someone's attention so badly I didn't care how I got it. And that was too dangerous for me to hold onto. "Are you insane or some shit? I could have killed you!" He says and starts to walk towards me. I take a big breath and step back away from him, "s-stop! Axel," I stutter still panting. It's then he notices the blood on my hands and shirt. "Is that blood?" He asks staring at my shirt and I take another step back. "Stop, stay b-back," I try to say confidently but I can't even breath right. Realizing he won't listen I start to turn around planning to make a break for it. "Don't run from me Blaze it won't go well," he growls reading my thoughts causing me to freeze in my spot. "Do not ever think you can get away from me."

"Mom, not today. I don't even know why you're making me go. Today is dads..." I didn't want to finish and remind her of dads' birthday. My phone kept ringing, I already knew it was Dakota, he's my childhood best friend. "Just take your brother to school, please!" She exclaimed. She looked miserable. I shut the door and smelled the freshly cut grass. I smiled to myself knowing it was my dad's favorite smell. "Alexandria! We're gonna be late, can you stop daydreaming and get in the car." My brother, Cory hollered. He hates to think about dad. He just forgets. I Jeep Wrangler and I started the car, Cory rolled down his windows. "Are we sitting together at lunch today?" Cory asked me. "No I want you to sit with your friends, I'll be alright alone." I told him. "Alright Alex, believe it or not I actually love you. And I love you enough to tell you, you need friends." He admitted. "Have fun. Love you too, Corky." I laughed at the name I gave him when I was a kid. He smiled at me then left into the school. I went on to go to a flower shop. I stopped and got out. I walked in the shop. "Ally, do you have my order, the cars running?" I asked Ally. "Yeah Alex, I have it. Your order for 1 dozen Chocolate Cosmos, 2 dozen Daises, and 1 dozen yellow Roses." "Thanks Ally." I grabbed all the flowers then ran back to the car. I drove to the grave. I threw all my stuff into my bag. I grabbed the flowers and I pulled my bag over my shoulder and got out. I looked around and saw people young and old coming here to see their loved ones. I saw my families graves. Almost my whole family will be buried here. My grandpa always said it was sacred. I put the Cosmos on my dad's grave. The Daises on my grandmothers and the Roses on my grandpas. I talked and talked to them till I pull my pack of cigarettes out of my bag along with a lighter. I put the cancer stick in my mouth and lit it. "You guys are probably really mad right now. Blame peer pressure in 9th grade."
