"How many times does she come home like this?" I ask, reluctantly but I couldn't help myself. The boy turned towards me with mournful eyes, maybe even looking a little moist. He rubbed his eyes before looking me right in the eye.
"It only used to be maybe once or twice every few months, but now it's once or twice a week. I don't know why Emma hates Zara so much, but I know I hate seeing Zara come home broken and bruised," The boy said stiffly, his fists clenched by his sides. "None of us are big enough to protect her ourselves, most of the time she's protecting us." The boy's whole body started to tremble, his knuckles turning white.
