This is Annette's story of her becoming a traveler with Antoinette.  This story takes place in the fictional country of Kiaudan in Victorian times.  A traveler is a tradition in which there is a choosing where four lucky people between the ages of 16 and 29 get picked to go on an adventure.  They are given a broach and are set off on their journey the next day if they so choose to go.  The only rule is once you leave the borders of the state you started off in and you return your adventure is over.  However, Kiaudan is a cold and mountainous island where the people who are picked to be a traveler don't always come back home alive.
