Esmeralda's father just recently died from a car accident. Her mother, left with no other choice, decides to date Ray. A drunken, filthy, man who is also abusive. Soon they move in together. Esmerlada doesn't like it one bit and wishes to contact her 20 year old brother, Travis, across seas to tell him.

But she gets caught and her mother gets punished for it. Her mom then tells Esmeralda to just lie low and keep her head down. But Esmeralda is a spirited young girl and refuses to give up on trying to find a way out of that wretched household. But before she can come up with a decent plan, Ray springs a surprise. They're moving. To Florida.

Esmeralda leaves her old school and friends in dreary Wyoming to move to sunny Florida. Once there she enrolls in the local high school only to be pursued by their very own Mr. Popular.

Enter Connor Baileys: An absolutely drop-dead gorgeous angel. He finds a certain.... Pull to Esmeralda and is soon trying to gain her trust. But how can Esmeralda trust him? Shes seen and experienced what happens when you trust someone. Especially a guy. But she can't deny the mysterious pull she feels towards him also. So despite her better judgement she finds herself wanting to get to know him too.

But Mr. Popular has a few secrets of his own... Can Esmeralda learn to trust him? And can Connor get through to her?
