Paint is a lost girl. She's an orphan. She's an outcast. She lives in her truck. She's just got a fucked up life. That doesn't stop her from getting awesome grades. She works hard to ensure a college scholarship. Michael Clifford is not homeless. In fact, he's rich and popular. His life is perfect, except he craves the attention of his parents. He seems alone, but hides that from his three best friends: Ashton, Luke, and Calum. Paint and Michael get paired for a project. Paint absolutely hates it. She hates working with others. Not to mention that Michael intimidates and empowers her (not that she'd admit it.) Paint tries to hide her secret from Michael while he opens up to her. They overcome their differences and fall in love. Michael reveals himself to the girl that puts herself aside from everyone. Paint finally gets the attention she wanted, but isn't convinced it will last. She tries to fight, but can you really fight love? In this book one Australian teenager overcome her deepest fears and the other finds a silver lining in a lonely life. One hides on the inside and the other has only a book to confide. See how their life changes unintentionally just because of a school project.

"What's that?" The boy quickly brought his hand to the girl's cheek, softly brushing over the purple skin, determined to not hurt her. But she still winced slightly under his touch. "Nothing." Her voice sounded broken and scared when she pulled away quickly. She didn't want to face him like that. The boy's expression softened immediately, his eyes full of worry. "Was it him?" "I tripped and fell down the stairs." "Why don't you leave him?" When she looked at her best friend, with so much sadness and concern, paired with anger for the boy who caused her all this pain, in his eyes, she felt her heart shatter. "I love him." He shook his head slowly. "No, you don't. You love the idea of him."
