Autumn Fletcher's life is a mess. Her mother is gone, her father locks himself in his room when he's not at work and refuses to speak to anyone, and no one but her grandmother believes she can amount to anything. When Autumn's family moves to the small town of Bakersfield, she convinces her father and grandmother that it's the perfect time for her to begin attending regular school after being homeschooled all her life. She starts as a freshman at the local high school the day February break ends. Autumn only wants to fit in, make some friends, do well in school, maybe play a sport. There's just one problem. Autumn is blind. But with the help of a few loving and supportive teammates and a track and cross country coach dead set on her success, Autumn finally finds a chance to be a part of something. Maybe she can be more than "the blind girl", more than just another burden for her family. Maybe she can fit in somewhere, find a way to do something meaningful. Maybe she can begin to fit the broken pieces of her life back together.
