Kristoffer "Kris" Earnestton, an aspiring songwriter who has achromatopsia, an eye disorder causing him to see the world in the shades of only black and white, had never cared too much about anything in his life, believing that one day, everything will vanish and nothing will really matter and we'll be all forgotten.

The car turned over and spun like a top, flipped from the road to the gorge. Krist held my hands tightly, all I saw was his face, blood was running down his hair and it turned his eyes red, I could hear Techna calling out my name but I couldn't open my mouth. I couldn't see Nance nor hear her. I saw the car was about to hit the floor of the rocks lying below and I took my last breath...
