When you're a prince of a small country, and your parents are hounding you to marry, what do you do?
Send in a resumé to a princess of a bigger country, of course.

It's the time of year for Princess Valerie (known fondly as the Valkyrie of Ghaliria) to hold her season of interviews for potential future kings. The long standing bet between her and her father- that she won't find her true love within 15 years of trying- seems to lie in her favor. The liberal, rebel rousing, tattoed and dyed princess has the throne in her sights, and she refuses to let a foreign man rule her beloved country for her.

But Prince Gabriel is running out of options, and his parents have threatened to choose a wife for him if he can't secure one within the next six months. Being from the small country of Dirindel, he doesn't have the luxury of the world's spotlight. All he can hope for is a little spark to keep him away from the various horrors his parents pluck from the woodwork as a potential bride.

Will Valerie live to see herself win her bet?
Or will Gabriel's resumé be the thing that sparks their downward spiral?

Crown Princess Leonore, heir to the queendom of Dranath, likes women, obviously. The Queen Mother Carmilla marries her off to Sir Gabriel, obviously. So when she finds out Sir Gabriel is a woman... Dranath; queendom of mystique, bordered by jealous allies. To the southwest, the states of Aurune. East is the coast and the maritime poleis of Raham. To the north, the Hierstag clans. Rich in land and crop and poor in everything else, the queendom is closed in from all fronts. And when the sword of years-long grudges is brought to bear, who will play it to the hilt? ------------------------------ i wanted to say that this book is my love letter to imperialism, but it's actually lovingly crafted hatemail non-anonymously submitted to imperialism's tumblr asks. the narrative does get darker as it goes on. this is an exploration of how much suffering one can propagate in order to achieve one's goal, and the degree in which your decisions can be justified (even only to yourself!) before you become, essentially, irredeemable; an exercise in Is It Worth It Though yeah there's magic(k) in this one. and a lot of geopolitics! might have gotten carried away with the geopolitics. come for the gay, stay for the political machinations. or come for the political machinations and stay for the gay, i dont mind. 3rd person pov, leonore-centric, no homophobia (at least, not the kind we usually see), i want to say butch/femme but honestly it's butch gabriel/whatever the hell leonore is. folk anti-hero narrative or villain origin story, you decide

REWRITE IS UP NOW ANd is way better seriously. Taking a shortcut was the most life-changing decision Rosalie had ever made. One large demon cat later, she's whisked away by two knights to a separate realm because of her violet eyes and striking resemblance to their long lost princess. Ro is shoved into a life of magic, with duties to her kingdom and people piled on top. Duties, like being forced to attend the most elite school in the realm for young knights in training. But with her newfound strength and political influence comes death threats and assassination attempts from an unseen enemy. Rosalie juggles everything in her new life, hoping that she'll one day be the ruler she knows her kingdom deserves. This story has been one I've bounced around my head for years now, and I've finally written it out. You could say this is a labor of love. And pain. And caffeine. So much caffeine. Enjoy this, my first story. EDIT: Now that I've poked around on Wattpad some, I realize that this is somewhat similar to MyLovelyWriter's Celeste Academy. I'm very sorry for any misunderstanding, but I can assure you, I just have an awkward and longstanding obsession with castles, knights, and magic.
